Fort Patmos

Stone battlements rise above the whitewashed lanes of Patmos, the Aegean island remembered in Christian tradition as the place of the apostle John’s exile and the setting of the opening vision of Revelation. The fortified walls overlook stairways, hillside dwellings, and visiting pilgrims below, giving the scene a strong sense of watchfulness, endurance, and sacred history. In Revelation 1:9, John identifies himself as being “on the island called Patmos” because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. This view connects biblical geography with the church’s long memory of suffering, witness, and hope. Well suited for teaching on Revelation, Christian pilgrimage, biblical lands, exile, perseverance, and the historic faith of the island of Patmos.
